Supporting the evolution of classical repertoire
At CRD, we believe as much in the classical canon as we do in its reinterpretation, evolution and expansion.
To this end, we are delighted to now enter the publishing side of the music industry. Here are the arrangers and composers (many of whom are also artists) whom we are pleased to be working with, starting with the wonderful Maya Magub.
Maya Magub has released 5 albums with CRD Records to critical acclaim. Maya’s latest albums with CRD offer fresh takes on much-loved piano repertoire (Liszt’s Consolations) and the first opportunity to hear music from Mozart’s workshop on strings (and without the crude texts!)
A doctor, award-winning psychiatrist and an academic by training, Russell Blacker has had a long interest in early music both as a performer, editor and director. He has had an equally long interest in reconstructing incomplete works the most recent being a performance of Monteverdi’s Orfeo in a new performing edition, with English translation and reconstruction of the missing scene in Act V. Other recent reconstructions and edits include an opera by William Shield, concerts of polychoral music by Praetorius Gabrieli and Monteverdi, and the vast repertoire of English folk carols and gallery music. In the 1970s and 80s he had a choir in London which specialised in pre-Reformation music, performing works by Fayrfax Aston and Taverner as well as most of the Eton Choirbook. The eleven Eton Choirbook reconstructions which appear on two forthcoming albums with CRD are the result of a long gestation brought to fruition during covid lockdown.
Timothy Kennedy Adams Jr.
Timothy Kennedy Adams Jr. is the Mildred Goodrum Heyward Professor of Music at Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. Prior to joining UGA, Tim was Principal Timpanist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for fifteen years and was Professor of Music at Carnegie Mellon University. Tim has played in most of the major concert halls around the world with many a major soloist and under the baton of conducting giants, including Pierre Boulez and Sir Neville Mariner.
A champion of the music of our time, Tim has had several works commissioned for him, includin, The Messenger Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra by James Oliverio, A prolific composer, alongside further orchestral works. Tim’s œuvre also includes solo and chamber works for percussion.
The world premiere recordings of his hard-hitting spoken word and orchestral works feature on CRD’s release Journeyism.
At 19, Lenny White played with Jackie McLean, recorded Bitches Brew with Miles Davis, and Red Clay with Freddie Hubbard. Lenny is one of the founding fathers of the jazz-rock movement and is a four-time Grammy Award winner. He earned a worldwide reputation as the drummer with Return to Forever and has played and collaborated with artists such as Joe Henderson, Gato Barbieri, Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, and Chaka Khan.
Lenny continues to lead and stay on the cutting edge of music by producing new artists and performing and continues to write new works, further expanding his musical footprint, bringing his jazz colour to classical compositions.
